Expansion of Service Area

UNITED WAY OF ESCAMBIA COUNTY TO INCORPORATE SANTA ROSA COUNTY INTO SERVICE AREA

On Thursday, April 25, United Way of Escambia County’s Board of Directors approved a motion to incorporate Santa Rosa County into the organization’s service area. This came at the request of United Way Worldwide, who approached United Way of Escambia County about assuming the territory.

Emerging Leaders

 

Within our community, 83 individuals under 40 years-old stand out. They stand out because through their philanthropy, they exhibit their dedication to community and leadership. We call them Emerging Leaders, and they choose to LIVE UNITED year-round through their annual gift of at least $365.

#211Day: Hurricane Michael

 

On October 10, 2018, Hurricane Michael made landfall in the Florida Panhandle as a high-end Category 4 hurricane. The devastation the storm left in its path was catastrophic and widespread. Homes were destroyed, neighborhoods were eradicated, and lives were forever changed.

As the storm passed, and the aftermath was first seen on television screens and across social media platforms, one thing was clear – people needed somewhere to turn. Many turned to 2-1-1.

PENSACOLA SISTER CITY RECOVERING FROM FLOODS

 

Pensacola’s sister city, Gero, Japan, is still recovering from extreme flooding and landslides caused by the landfall of Typhoon Prapiroon in July. Gero experienced all-time rainfall records and saw thousands of citizens seek shelter. The city of over 33,000 citizens experienced extensive damage and property loss. Following the storms, the region suffered from life-threatening heatwaves.
