ALICE households are a vital part of our community—and their stories deserve to be understood.
United Way of West Florida invites community members to join the 2026 ALICE Info Sessions, a series of virtual conversations designed to shed light on the realities facing ALICE families in our region.
ALICE—which stands for *Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed*—represents hardworking individuals and families who earn above the federal poverty level but still struggle to afford basic necessities like housing, childcare, transportation, and healthcare. These are the people who keep our communities running: childcare workers, retail employees, home health aides, and many others.
During this one-hour virtual session, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges ALICE households face and why this issue matters to the health of our entire community.
Through engaging discussion and real-world context, attendees will learn:
• The history of the ALICE initiative and how it began
• An overview of ALICE in Florida and what the data reveals
• The local impact of ALICE in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties
• How individuals, organizations, and advocates can better support and serve ALICE households
These sessions are designed for anyone interested in learning more—community members, volunteers, nonprofit professionals, business leaders, and advocates who want to understand better the economic realities affecting their neighbors.
By the end of the session, participants will walk away with a clearer picture of who ALICE is, why their stories matter, and how collective action can create stronger, more resilient communities.
Sessions are held virtually on the last Wednesday of each month from February through October, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Whether you are new to the ALICE conversation or looking to deepen your understanding, these sessions provide an accessible starting point to learn, engage, and make a difference.
