You have more than 25 years of experience in business development, philanthropy, and communications. What first drew you to this line of work, and what has kept you passionate about it?

While I was in college, I completed an internship with the March of Dimes, where I witnessed firsthand the passion and dedication of the staff. More importantly, I saw the tangible difference their work was making in the lives of mothers and babies throughout the community. That experience was my first introduction to the nonprofit sector, and it inspired me to pursue a career centered on service and impact. I was drawn to the opportunity to use my time and talents to benefit others and contribute to meaningful, lasting change in people’s lives.

What attracted you to United Way of West Florida, and what made you decide this was the right next step in your career?
I have spent the majority of my professional career in the nonprofit sector. Although I pursued opportunities in the corporate world at different points in my career, I found myself missing the personal fulfillment that comes from doing meaningful work and making a tangible difference in the lives of others. As a Workplace Campaign Chair at a previous organization, I had the opportunity to see firsthand the impact and strong reputation of United Way. Through that experience, I developed a deep appreciation for its mission and knew that I wanted to be part of an organization dedicated to creating positive change in the community.

What does philanthropy mean to you, and why do you think it plays such an important role in strengthening communities?
To me, philanthropy is about strengthening our communities and actively contributing to their success. It reflects a shared commitment to causes and missions that improve the lives of others. When people come together to support something they truly believe in, philanthropy demonstrates that we are stronger collectively than we are individually. As the saying goes, “it takes a village,” and philanthropy is one of the most powerful ways we can invest in and uplift that village for the benefit of all.

As you step into your new role, what are you most excited about?
What excites me most about my role is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with individual donors, corporate leaders, foundations, and community partners to advance the mission of United Way of West Florida. By bringing people together around a shared vision, I can help generate the resources and support needed to create lasting, positive change for individuals and families across our region.

Building relationships is such an important part of philanthropy. What do you think makes a meaningful and lasting relationship between a nonprofit and its donors or community partners?
I believe strong community partnerships are built on a shared vision, a solid reputation, and, most importantly, unwavering trust. When organizations and individuals are aligned around common goals and have confidence in one another’s integrity and commitment, they can work together effectively to create meaningful and lasting impact.

United Way works across several impact areas, including education, financial stability, health, and community resilience. Is there an area of community impact that holds a particularly special place for you, and why?
I believe all of United Way’s impact areas are essential to building a strong, well-rounded community. However, if I had to choose one area that resonates most with me, it would be health. A healthy community is a strong community, and I have been fortunate to witness the importance of health and wellness throughout every stage of life. From my work supporting programs that promote healthy mothers and babies, to advocating for blood donation efforts that help save lives, to seeing the comfort and dignity that hospice care provides patients and their families, I have developed a deep appreciation for the role health plays in the overall quality of life. These experiences have shown me that supporting the health and well-being of our neighbors is a full-circle investment.

What do you hope to accomplish in your first year at United Way, and what would you most like the community to know about the work we're doing?
Over the next year, I hope to strengthen existing relationships and build new, lasting partnerships throughout our community. I want people to know that we are all in this together and that no one has to face life’s challenges alone. Whether someone is seeking support through 211, experiencing a crisis and needs immediate help through 988, or looking for programs that serve veterans, school-aged children, older adults, and families, resources are available and help is within reach. I also want our community to recognize that every gift to United Way of West Florida, whether through a workplace campaign or an individual contribution, is more than a donation. It is an investment in the well-being of our neighbors and the long-term strength, resilience, and prosperity of our community.

Why do you think it is important for individuals and businesses to invest in their local communities?
I believe it is important for both individuals and businesses to invest in their local community because those investments strengthen the quality of life for everyone. Beyond the immediate impact, charitable giving also sets a powerful example for future generations, inspiring a culture of philanthropy and community involvement. We are especially fortunate to live and work in a region supported by an incredible network of nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to improving lives every day. Equally inspiring is the generosity of our community's donors, who consistently step up to support their neighbors and recognize the value of investing in meaningful solutions. When people and businesses give back, they help create a stronger, more connected community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

What is one piece of advice, professional or personal, that has stuck with you over the years?
One piece of advice that has guided me throughout my life is simple: “Do what you say you’re going to do.” Consistent follow through on your commitments is one of the most effective ways to build trust and credibility. Whether in personal relationships or professional settings, people value reliability and integrity. When your actions align with your words, you create stronger connections, earn respect, and establish a reputation that others can depend on.

When you're not working, what's your favorite way to spend a day off?
My favorite way to spend a day off is traveling, relaxing with a good book while enjoying the beach, or spending quality time with family and friends. Whether I’m exploring a new destination, unwinding with my toes in the sand, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones, I value the opportunity to recharge, stay connected, and create meaningful memories.
