Volunteer Spotlight: Debbie Douma – Fun with a Purpose
In celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 19–26), United Way
of West Florida is honored to recognize a leader whose dedication and "time and talent" have shaped our community for years. Today, we are shining a light on Debbie Douma, a longtime UWWF Board Member and a key force behind our annual Glitz & Gallop Gala.
From the boardroom to community events, Debbie’s commitment to service is a cornerstone of our organization’s success.
A Commitment to Service
For Debbie, volunteering is about showing up for the causes that matter. Whether she is reviewing Community Investment Grants to ensure donor dollars make the greatest impact or providing strategic leadership on our board, her focus is always on supporting the community.
"I’ve always found time to volunteer for organizations and causes that have meaning for me—especially when I had more time and talent than treasure," Debbie shares. "As a board member, I think it is important that I try to support as many UWWF events and activities as possible."
Bringing the Glitz & Gallop Gala to Life
While Debbie is involved in many facets of UWWF, the Glitz & Gallop Gala is where her passion for teamwork and execution truly shines. She is part of the process from the very first planning session to the moment the last guest leaves, enjoying the unique opportunity to work closely with both staff and fellow board members.
"The gala is one of the most fun to be a part of," she says. "I love being at the gala and seeing the result of everyone’s hard work: attendees having a great time while raising much-needed funding to support UWWF activities and initiatives!"
Debbie’s Invitation: Join the Purpose
To anyone considering getting involved with United Way or the Gala for the first time, Debbie’s advice is simple and spirited: "Join all of us to have fun with a purpose!"
Thank You, Debbie!
United Way of West Florida extends a heartfelt thank you to Debbie Douma for her years of leadership, her tireless work on the Glitz & Gallop committee, and her unwavering dedication to West Florida.
