The Power of "Thank You" with Crystal Berkley
As we continue our National Volunteer Week (April 19–26) celebrations, United Way of West Florida is honored to introduce you to Crystal Berkley. As a dedicated Community Investment volunteer, Crystal plays a vital role in ensuring that every dollar donated to UWWF is used to create the greatest possible impact for our neighbors.
For Crystal, this isn't just a volunteer role—it’s a full-circle moment.
A Personal Connection to the Mission
Crystal’s passion for the Community Investment process is rooted in her own history. She understands the life-changing power of local programs because she has seen it from both sides.
"As a child, I was a recipient of programs such as the ones we support," Crystal shares. "It gives me a way to say, 'thank you!' If others didn’t do what we are trying to do now, I’m not sure what life would look like for me today. Just that simple!"
This deep sense of gratitude drives her commitment to the agencies and programs that UWWF supports. She sees them for what they truly are: the essential building blocks of a thriving community.
The Heart of Community Investment
The Community Investment process can be rigorous, but Crystal finds immense value in the opportunity to shape the future of West Florida. For her, it’s about recognizing that we are all stronger when we work together.
"These agencies and programs are vital to help promote and sustain a thriving community," she says. "We are given such a great opportunity to impact so much through this process."
Crystal’s Call to Action: "If Not You, Then Who?"
If you’re thinking about volunteering but haven't yet taken the plunge, Crystal is ready to give you a nudge (and she warns she can be quite persuasive!). Her message is one of shared responsibility and collective power.
"If your heart leads you to serve, then let’s serve," Crystal encourages. "All of us can do so much more together than any one of us can do alone. But bring the tissues... It’s heartwarming stuff!"
