Community Resiliency

To build a stronger, more resilient future, United is the Way.

When individuals and families face challenging times, knowing a support system is in place changes everything. United Way of West Florida works hand-in-hand with our community to build that safety net. We rely on your time, talent, and treasure to effectively deliver critical services to those who need them most. In fact, many who receive a helping hand often become our community's fiercest advocates and supporters.

When you give financially or roll up your sleeves to volunteer, you aren't just supporting a cause—you are lifting up a neighbor, a coworker, or a friend, and helping Escambia and Santa Rosa counties thrive.

Understanding ALICE in Our Community

A critical piece of building a resilient West Florida is supporting our ALICE population. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.

ALICE represents the hardworking individuals and families in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties who are working or working multiple jobs, yet still struggle to afford the basic cost of living—such as housing, childcare, food, transportation, and healthcare. These are our child care workers, mechanics, hospitality staff, and home health aides. They earn above the Federal Poverty Level, but they do not make enough to build savings.

When an unexpected emergency hits—like a car breakdown, a medical bill, or a major storm—ALICE families face a severe financial crisis. Our community resiliency initiatives are designed to prevent these hard-working households from falling through the cracks, helping them weather life's storms and find long-term stability.
