Upcoming RSVP Events

Volunteers 55+ are invited to join our Escambia County RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) events for socialization, learning, and occasional volunteer projects.

Events are free, registration is required for lunches and requested with Snacking with Seniors.

If you are interested in RSVP but are unable to attend one of our events, fill out our interest form here to get started.

If you have any issues signing up for an event please reach out to Janet Rice McCoy, RSVP Manager.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) matches people 55 and better who are AmeriCorps Seniors members with service opportunities in the community. This initiative is sponsored in Escambia County by the United Way of West Florida (UWWF).

At this workshop, we will explore highlights of the 30-year history of AmeriCorps. This national service initiative turns volunteers’ determination, compassion, and creativity into solutions for our nation’s most pressing challenges. You will learn the benefits of becoming an AmeriCorps member who joins like-minded Americans in making positive changes in our community.

We will also explore how AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP supports the mission of UWWF which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024. RSVP volunteers support non-profit agencies in Escambia County by mentoring and tutoring students, greeting clients, performing administrative tasks, preparing taxes, visiting hospice patients, supporting military members and veterans, and so much more. One-time service opportunities such as sorting food donations, collecting school supplies, and delivering donuts to first responders are also available.

If RSVP is a good fit, there will be an opportunity to enroll as an AmeriCorps member and to explore specific service sites including their onboarding process, orientation, and how-to record your service hours. Finally, a calendar of upcoming RSVP events will be distributed to AmeriCorps members. Monthly activities focus on fellowship, food, fun, service, education, and occasional tours.

Staff from the Center for Independent Living (CIL) of Northwest Florida will provide an overview of their organization’s mission and vision. This includes promoting, educating, facilitating, assisting and advocating with and on behalf of people with disabilities so they can achieve their goals of independence. CIL envisions a world where people with disabilities have freedom, choice, and control over all aspects of their lives, so they can fully and equally participate in society. This includes people who are born with disabilities, as well as, those who develop disabilities due to injury or the aging process.
